Creel Bay Golf Course is a municipal layout on Devils Lake in Devils Lake, North Dakota. ?Operated by the Devils Lake Park Board, the course is a favorite among northeastern North Dakota golfers because of` its well-conceived contrasting nines, suitability for both ordinary and skilled players, peaceful setting, and very affordable tee times. Creel Bay Golf Course started as a 9-hole course back in 1921 and earned a reputation as one of North Dakota s best layouts. The playing field expanded to 18 holes in 2003, but less than a decade later portions of the course needed to be completely redone after the a dykealtereded the boundaries of the lake. The four finishing holes are the newest additions to the layout. Creel Bay Golf Course offers players three sets of tees. The forward markers measure 5,231 yards, the middle tee comes in at 5,948 yards, and the back tee box tops out at 6,441 yards. Creel Bay Golf Course is a tale of two nines. The holes on the par-35 front nine date back to the layout's early days and play through tree-lined corridors. Meanwhile, the links-style back nine, a par 37 with three par 5s, rambles on much more open, wind-exposed terrain. A couple of holes on the back nine are situated close to Devils Lake, though the lake itself isn t in play. Water, in the form of ponds, enters the fray on six holes, but no forced carries over hazards are required. The undulating greens are a strong suit of the course. They typically roll true and are among the fastest in all of North Dakota. Most players find Creel Bay Golf Course to be a fun and user-friendly test. Some of toughest challenges come on tricky, subtle dogleg holes and a couple of longer par 4s that may be tough to reach in regulation. Practice facilities are limited. The ?driving range was lost when the lake was altered and the course revised. There s just a putting green and an area where you can take some warm-up swings. The clubhouse features a small pro shop and a fully stocked bar with a pub-style snack menu. The lakefront patio is a nice place to toast your round. Creek Bay Golf Course typically opens for the season around April and closes by the end of October. The course is always busy in season, so don t delay when you want to make a tee time at this beautiful North Dakota layout.
