The South Course at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, Ontario may play second fiddle to the club s adjacent, more highly acclaimed 27-hole North Course, but it is nonetheless a favorite among local golfers in Southern Ontario s Durham Region. Located between the 401 and 407 expressways about 35 miles northeast of Toronto, the South Course is short and sporty and it yields good scores more easily than the North Course. Its tee times are also more affordably priced. The well-groomed, picturesque layout is enjoyable for players of widely varying skill levels. You ll find three tee decks at the South Course at Deer Creek Golf Club. They provide distance options measuring 5,060 yards, 5,644 yards,, and 6,045 yards. Par is 71. The par-36 Sapphire-9 at the South Course at Deer Creek Golf Club features water in play on four holes, including both of the par 3s. Highlights of the par-35 Emerald-9 are back-to-back par 5s that play uphill and downhill, respectively. A twisting creek crosses a few of the holes, while ponds present hazards on a couple of other tests. The entire layout is varied, with a pleasing mix of holes that proceed toward every point on the compass. Because the South Course at Deer Creek Golf Club generally sees less play than the North Course, the pace of play is often quicker. Deer Creek South is pleasant to walk, although you ll encounter a couple of long gaps between holes during the round. Practice facilities are limited to two putting greens.
