Azalea Sands Golf Club, located off of Highway 17 near Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is one of the Grand Strand s venerable playing fields. This very playable course has been an extremely popular tee time ever since it opened back in 1972. Further enhancing the experience, no homes line the fairways of the classic layout created by course architect Gene Hamm. Known for providing excellent value and a chance to shoot a good score, the par-72 Azalea Sands Golf Club offers something for everyone with five sets of tee markers that can be played from as short as 3,730 yards or as long as 6,444 yards. Trees loosely line the narrow fairways. Many of Azalea Sands Golf Club s holes parallel each other, with stands of pines providing some separation. You shouldn t lose a ball in the trees. Water enters the fray on a number of holes, leading to a few forced carries to reach the greens. For the most part, though, there s a way around the water at Azalea Sands Golf Club. The smallish, Bermuda greens feature enough undulations to make putting interesting. The layout features some solid par 4s and an impressive and rather tough collection of par 3s. You ll find scoring opportunities on the four par 5s, as the longest maxes out at 519 yards. The challenge and charm on this family-friendly course ramps up somewhat on back nine, but nothing is too severe. Beautiful azaleas bloom vibrantly in spring on the 5th hole. A portion of Azalea Sands Golf Club borders North Myrtle Beach s private airfield. If you want to warm up before your round, you can hit into a net and use the putting green. Azalea Sands Golf Club does not have a driving range. The clubhouse features a fully stocked pro shop and a renovated restaurant and bar.
