Arizona Grand Golf Course, located just off of I-10 at the Arizona Grand Resort, is a unique Phoenix layout that has been delighting golfers since it opened back in the late 1980s. This sporty layout, which tucks back by the base of South Mountain, provides a game that is fun for players of all skill levels. If you like variety, desert scenery, and welcome a course where distance doesn t do you in and many holes are delightfully short, make haste to reserve your tee time at Arizona Grand Golf Course. The layout, a par 71 designed by Forrest Richardson, tops out at about 6,300 yards and features contrasting stretches of holes. The round begins with a resort-style challenge with water hazards on the first four holes. These are the lushest tests of the day. In the middle section of the round the game at Arizona Grand Golf Course transitions to desert, target-style golf. The best comes last, as the final, more open stretch of holes approaches South Mountain Park. Here you ll be immersed in a natural and tranquil realm with more elevation changes and rugged surroundings. Many players find the mountain-backdropped, uphill par-4 13 hole, with its terraced bunkers fronting an elevated green, to be an irresistible photo opportunity. The same can be said from the elevated tee box on 18 where you ll see the Phoenix skyline, the McDowell Mountains, and Camelback Mountain. Arizona Grand Golf Course is anything but a cookie-cutter layout. It features five par 3s and five par 5s and finishes with a par 3. Not a single par 4 measures as long as 400 yards. In fact, three of the par 4s are just over 300 yards. Just don t fall into a false sense of security Arizona Grand Golf Course poses a challenge. The game here is all about placement. With narrow landing areas and the desert encroaching wide of the groomed turf, you ll need to keep the ball in play. This task gets complicated on the back nine with some blind tee shots. The prudent play is often to use an iron on your drives. After your round, dining, drinking and entertainment amenities of Arizona Grand Resort are right at hand. Arizona Grand Golf Course may not be best suited for long-ball hitters, but for its uniqueness and sheer fun quotient, this Phoenix course is a great option.
