The Reserve at Spanos Park is a premier upscale course in a tranquil setting in North Stockton, California. Skilled players gravitate to this expansive, pleasingly varied and picturesque links-style layout that has hosted numerous NCAA Regionals competitions and is one of the home courses of the University of?the Pacific s men s golf team. Golf Digest has rated The Reserve at Spanos Park 4.5 out of 5 stars and the course has also appeared on Golf Advisor s list of the Top Courses in California. Course architect Andy Raugust, who has worked for the Jack Nicklaus and Schmidt & Curley design firms, laid out the playing field in 1999 on a 360-acre site that was formerly farmland. Cornfields still abut?the course. Raugust pushed a lot of dirt to add intriguing contours to the land. You ll find wide fairways but also trouble to the left and right of the inviting landing areas. The holes are fully exposed to the wind. Tall, thick native grasses, lakes and wetlands on eleven holes, and lots of sand present the major threats to par. A plethora of bunkers populate the fairways and stoutly defend the greens. The greens are fast and smooth with false fronts and notable breaks. The Reserve at Spanos Park calls upon players to think their way around the course. While the front nine plays more open and provides the best chance to score, the more scenic back nine Mt. Diablo serves as a backdrop is tighter and quite difficult. The Reserve at Spanos Park features four sets of tees that can moderate or accentuate the challenges. From the forward makers, the?course measures 5,294 yards. The back tees max out at 7,082 yards. Many players opt to walk this course that is known for its abundant birdlife. Playing conditions are normally excellent, as the facility has almost a country club feel. Practice facilities include a driving range, a complete short-game area, and chipping and putting greens. The clubhouse features a fully-stocked pro shop and a bar and grille with a wrap-around patio. The view overlooking one of the lakes on the course is enchanting at sunset.
